As if I don't have enough to do in my first
Life!

Welcome to an online virtual social network
that is taking the world by storm. People of
all walks of life and for all sorts of reasons
enter Second Life (SL) and spend a lot of time there. It's
sort of like instant messaging/chat with a visual component. Not only can you to talk to people, you can shop together, go dancing, snowboarding, listen to live music, etc.

Why 3D Modeling?

So...why list it under 3D Modeling?  There's much more than just the social networking aspects.  3D artists and programmers abound in Second Life (SL). Linden Labs (creators of Second Life) create very little of the content themselves. They leave it up to the residents to create the environments with which people interact. So every person has the ability to build and script in Second Life (SL). The beauty of it is, when you build something, you can share it with all the residents all over the world. The downside is that you are limited to some basic shapes as building blocks called 'prims' (short for primitives). You are also limited to a specified number of prims according to the size of the land you are on. However, people are quite creative. Check out the screen shots below.

Babbage's

Babbage was an inventor during the Victorian era and the sims (regions) built to honor him are absolutely amazing. In the victorian steamppunk style, it's definitely a must see in SL.

Cityscapes of the Babbage sims. These are not miniature scale either. You can walk your avatar right into the buildings to explore, shop, etc. So this place is HUGE!

Dirigibles and flying machines are very popular in SL. Here are a few in the Babbage sims.
